“PARASITE” WINS AT THE O$CARS BUT LOSES AT THE BOX OFFICE! THE PUBLIC VOTED FOR “AVENGERS: ENDGAME” WITH THEIR WALLETS!

BUT FOR A CHANGE, AT LEAST ONE NOMINEE THIS YEAR MADE SOME MONEY - JOKER

Again this year the old Colonel is weighing in to give his pick for BEST PICTURE of the year and like always, it differs from which film the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences actually gave the Oscar to on Sunday, 9 February 2020.  I truly appreciate the Academy members telling me that Parasite, the first foreign movie to win and even in a foreign language, was the Best motion picture of the year.  But, in the ONLY category that really counts – MONEY MADE – it appears the Worldwide audiences made a different selection.  When it comes to picking movies, I always "trust the mob" so here is how the movie going paying public ranked this year’s movies as of 10 February 2020.

In a departure from the norm, one of this year’s nine nominees for Best Picture was among the nine top money maker of the past year with the Joker coming in a distant but respectable seventh at $1.072 Billion.  This year’s Top earner and crowd favorite was AVENGER: ENDGAME with a whopping $2.798 Billion take Worldwide.  Interestingly, last year’s top money maker was AVENGER: Infinity War with a $2,048.4 take at the box office which indicates this franchise is a real crowd favorite.  That means this year’s AVENGER edition made nearly 17 times more money at the box office then the Academy’s “Best” picture selection – Parasite, a picture I couldn’t even understand because I’m not fluent in Korean nor can I read Hangul (despite have served in Korea).  Although I’m sure winning the Oscar is a great honor, I’m confident the producers of Parasite would gladly trade their Oscar for the extra $2.633 Billion Avenger earned. 

Hence, as in past years in the money spending public’s opinion it was again no contest ….and the WINNER is, bank statement Please (drum roll), the hands down winner by a country mile is (sorry Parasite): AVENGER: END GAME!
